I'm not sure exactly what the BAF theme looks like but the space one on here is pretty black and gray.

For the people excluded by the gender selection during sign up, does it make you more comfortable if cisgendered people hide their gender as well? I hid mine out of solidarity, but I don't know if that's actually helpful?

Personally I don't really mind, but it's really nice that you said that! Everybody has made me feel so cared for about this! <3
That said it feels a bit weird to see a gender symbol next to someone's name like that, seems kinda unnecessary. Also maybe a bit of jealousy/bitterness that I don't get a cool symbol, but that happens pretty much everywhere.
I'd say it's your personal choice whether you show or hide, since it could be very affirming for binary trans folk to have their gender symbol seen publicly.

I agree with dylan, I'm just glad I can hide it for myself. You've all been so lovely about this though and I'm happy to see how supportive this community is.

My beef with the gender thing is less about the display of a gender symbol at all, and less about what other people do with theirs, and more that there isn't an equivalent for us nonbinary folks. If there was a marker for being nb, I would use that, because it's personally important to me to be.... visibly nb, I guess? on the internet, when I can't at this juncture in my meatspace life. It's affirming, like Dylan mentioned. I understand the technical limitations of this software, though.
It doesn't make any difference to me whether or not other people have theirs on display, but it's very kind of you to take nonbinary people into consideration.

I guess that's also why we get so much flak for looking like an 'internet phenomena' but often we can literally only be visible as nb people on the internet. I could count on one hand the instances in real life where I've had the option to occupy a not binary-gendered box.

I'm going to assume that since the female symbol is bright pink, that the male symbol is blue. Which is also ridiculous. (I can't find anyone showing themselves as "male" on the forum and did not want to hunt forever) Unless it only shows that way for me because my forum theme is set to "ridiculous" which is crazy colors everywhere...

I hid mine out of solidarity, but I don't know if that's actually helpful? I don't mind whether people display gender markers or not. As mentioned above, it looks kind of weird to me to have a gender symbol there, but it doesn't actually bother me. It just seems like unnecessary information. Ideally I would prefer that specifying gender not be required for sign-up. Next best would be having some sort of nb gender option. But barring that, at least being able to hide gender markers for my own profile is nice.

feels really nice to have the first thing i read on this forum be consideration of and discussion by non-binary people. awesome. like others, i very much appreciate the consideration. i don't care one way or other what people do in regards to themselves, but yeah. it is sad that the only option available to me is to hide my gender entirely.... having said that, i understand that that is not a fault of the people running this forum but rather a fault of proboards. would be nice if proboards eventually did something about that, but i'm not going to hold my breath.

I'm really glad you signed up despite the shitty gender situation, it would have been sad to lose you because of it.
