A left field suggestion: if you can convince them to put you on salary, you can get your job done in the few hours it actually takes and not have to sit around bored the rest of the time. Beyond that, in similar situations I read books using a PDF viewer that was configured to not look like I was reading novels... basically matched the font/colors and window size with the spreadsheets I used. If you appear to be working, dumb managers won't know you're not. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've also read books when bored at work in the past!
Does whatever bookkeeping software you use have resources online to learn more? There's a ton you can learn about Excel online, my partner taught himself VBA from a book when he was in a similar situation, I think that's less relevant now but if you have an up to date version of excel there's apparently a ton of new features and functionality you can learn. The problem is you kinda need something to work towards with it, are there any spreadsheets you use at work that you can try and improve/automate?

Thank you all for the suggestions! Lish, if I could go remote I would but I'm "needed in the office to handle walk-ins". And a lot of the entries I make are from paper receipts and invoices still. I will have to start looking at book series to get into and try that.
