Starting one for all the non-piercing, tattoo, scarification bits people have (reconstructions too if that's your jam!). Magnets, implants, ear pointings, whatever, put it here (as long as it's SFW/not self done).

Actually fuck it I'll double post. Has anyone been following the North Sense? I think the advertising is a bit wanky but the concept is interesting. I kind of love/hate the idea of a surface pierced device though.

I think it is not viable for a long term gadget, and i will await v 2.0 if they ever find this worth continue to develop. If it can be fully implanted i would be more interested. I went to Steve Haworth and Liviu Babitz's presentation on BMXnet this year, and i think it got a lot of potential for the future, and will follow closely.
On other modifications: Have anyone else seen the video on hearing colours? That is so interesting on so many levels! (Search Neil Harbisson, and you will get a lot of fun stuff)

Yes! I love Neil Harbisson and the way he uses his eyeborg - so cool.
I like the concept of the North Sense in that even though their descriptions are totally woo-y, the idea of sensory integration is very real - it's slowly happened to me with my magnets. So I can't wait to see what future versions and ideas look like. I love that the bodyhackers and the mod community are coming together, good things are going to happen.

I think it's a little too much for me, personally, being a surface piercing. I may be biased, too, because I'm kinda sick of my magnet in my ring finger. It's the older Steve Haworth version. I've been wanting to get it removed and was undecided on getting the newer round ones later.

What's the older Haworth version Britt - the disc? I have Samppa magnets; they're a 6x2mm (about) cylinder coated in Ti. I'd recommend them by a long shot over something flat - insertion was simple as hell and they're strong enough to pick up forks and sense magnetic field and still be comfortable, though they're really too big for most female fingers. I love security gates now, the sensation I get from them is awesome.
Another reason North Sense intrigues me: I've never had surface piercings before.. but part of me would love to do it on my forearm just because. But then, I have a job where I'm supposed to look normal and stuff so eh. Wait and see I guess.

I'm not sure where else is a good placement for a new magnet, if I got one. I'd want it to be somewhere that it wouldn't get in the way if I was going to touch magnetic things, especially knowing how strong the newer ones are.

I have a Samppa magnet in my palm and while it's awesome for me I will say that sometimes a knife or something will just shoot over to my hand and surprise me.

Why are magnets usually placed in the hand? It seems a bit impractical. I want one for the sensation, but the idea of having a magnet in my finger has alway put me off. But I know the hand has a ton of nerve endings.

HAHAHA Katie. I don't really get knives per se but when I sew it's pins. Kind of handy being a pincushion, cleanup is easy!
Magnets are usually placed in the hand because of sensitivity, yeah, but anywhere that has enough flesh to support one is totally possible. I'd still make sure to pick somewhere that's likely to brush against magnetic fields etc in daily human interaction (forearm would totally work). Just get a Samppa one for the added strength. :-)

That's definitely what happens to me sometimes with my finger haha. Though the magnet is weak, I'll be surprised when I go to grab something with my left hand, like my iPod (the case has a magnetic closure).

For people with the stronger magnets: Does it affect electronic equiment? I've got a weaker one and apparently the only thing it might affect are floppy disks. The feeling it provides isn't as strong as I'd like though.

How do you make sure a scar is white? Ink rubbing? Powder? cut less deep?

How do you make sure a scar is white? Ink rubbing? Powder? cut less deep? genetics alone. if your normal scars heal white, so will your cutting... probably. there are no guarantees with scarification.

Is flesh plating viable/still a thing? I remember I really wanted one in high school.
