Has anyone tried the "Overtone products? I'm so tired of my boring brown but don't want the high maintenance of bleaching and coloring all the time... I've been using overtone for almost a year now. If you're not planning on lightening your hair, i would definitely get the for Brown Hair line instead of the regular. I'm still using it, but I find the regular colors, even the most pigmented option, don't cover my darker blonde hair very well. I think the "for brown hair" ones probably would. I ditch their instructions... Pop it on DRY (or lightly damp because it's pretty viscous) hair and let it sit for probably an hour... I don't know why hair dyes always say leave for like 15 min but that has never once been enough.
I've tried the blue for brown hair, extreme blue, & the extreme teal. The slightly blue gray is what this ended up fading to after quite a while and I think it fades pretty gracefully. I liked the blue for brown hair but also felt like it wasn't quite the color I wanted, but it was really vibrant over bleached hair - just a little darker than i wanted. Honestly don't know how well it would cover my natural hair since it hadn't grown out then, but i'd guess it would do pretty well?
I do find that at least the Teal doesn't really stick to my natural hair but it does show up very vibrant on my lightened hair. I do also find they seem to be a bit sensitive to UV light? The hair on the top fades a lot faster than the hair underneath, which will be decently more vibrant over time. I don't have pictures of the extreme blue for brown hair version at the ready, but it was definitely a bit more pigmented than the regular extreme blue and i'd buy that instead even if you had bleached hair if you wanted a super vibrant color.
I also find it way way less messy than any other dye I've ever used. It actually washes out clear and hasn't stained any towels. 👏 And this plus its graceful fading, is why i will keep using it. I don't need a blue tub and blue towels anymore...
Extreme teal after a few washes (probably about half a tub for this length):
regular Extreme Blue right after applying on bleached hair:
Before/after of the state of my bleached hair (with a silvery blue hue from faded overtone) then a fresh dose of extreme teal:

And also it only lets you upload 3 photos per post. Here's day 1 of extreme blue for brown hair, but on bleached hair. it literally looks like a wig because you can see it dyed my scalp but that washed out soon enough and wowee so vibrant (honestly i forgot that it totally broke my phone camera's ability to capture blue). and then the side view here is 3 weeks later, in direct sunlight. As far as I can tell from my phone photos, it probably stayed pretty vibrant for like 6 weeks. The regular "extreme" colors stay vibrant for 2-4 weeks and I probably would be inclined to re-dye every 4-6 weeks with those.

Thanks for the pics rawr! I was debating over the "extreme" and "for brown" versions so thats good to know. I think I'll be going for the purple so I'm hoping it doesn't fade to pink. Definitely going to put some serious thought into getting a tub. Do you use the whole line or just the initial tub of dye?

I have mixed some in the shower with my conditioner, but even at about a half & half mixture I didn't find it revived the color enough to be worth doing that and then also waiting 10-15 minutes for it to sit... I'm not sure if their actual "daily" conditioner does a better job. The conditioner aspect of it is pretty good though. My hair always feels really silky, but light, after using the dye. (which they insist it isn't dye - "it's color-depositing conditioner". it's dye lol) Also the conditioner/dye does smell like mint, which i didn't expect when i ordered the first time, but doesn't really leave much of a lingering scent.

I think I'll be going for the purple so I'm hoping it doesn't fade to pink. Look at the base color. If you get a blue based purple, it'll be far less likely to fade to pink than a red based purple.

If you bleach it again, I would go pick up some wella color charm 20 volume from the store. I don't know what those bleach kits are, but bleach is definitely better when it's done slow & low and I feel like kits are typically 40 volume. It's not hard to mix it yourself: I do 1 part powder to 2 parts developer. The bucket of bleach powder comes with a scoop so I do 1 scoop of powder & 2 scoops of developer. Frankly if you go this route, I'd just go get the little bucket and a bottle rather than the packets since your hair is so long. I'd also apply it to where the darker color starts first, then once that starts lightening, go for the newer growth since it'll lighten way faster & doesn't have color on it. Also wait until your hair is as dirty as you can stand it before doing this to protect your scalp or use a small amount of some sort of oil to help, but I would be careful to not soak your hair in oil, just add a little bit. I reference this every time I bleach my hair, 4 years later

Most of this is passed on from someone who used to frequent BAF way back who was a hair dresser & I nabbed most of my tips from her.

I love that If I could figure out how to post a picture these days I would show what my hair looks like, but it's basically just a bit in the front that I'm dying purple and blue and the rest of my hair is black. And it's getting quite long again, about hip length. I'd like to maintain it around classic length when it gets there.
