Studio Name:
Urban Piercings
Location(city, state or equivalent):
Reading, Berks, UK
Month/Year of service:
2014, 2015
Piercer/Tattooist:
Belle, Lian
What did you have done:
Septum, eyebrow, lip
APP or other industry memberships:
No
If not a member, did they meet or exceed APP standards:
No
Overall rating 1-10 stars:
3/10
Paragraph or two detailing your experience:
This was my first experience with a piercing studio and I was enthused by my experience there, the piercers were lovely and friendly etc. I only have my septum piercing that they did left. Surprisingly it's straight (enough) and healed within a matter of weeks.
They pierced my eyebrow when I clearly have the flattest brows known to humankind, which rejected 6 months later, to nobody's surprise. They use externally threaded "grade 5 titanium", which I've since learned means nothing. They also use PTFE for things like navels, nipples, tongues, industrials and genital work (I cringe at their website regarding genital work) and use guns for earlobes unless you pay a whopping extra for needle piercings. When I came in for my free downsize for my lip piercing, she was quite rough when threading the ball back on and it had a lump of tissue behind the ball for 4 months until I wised up and downsized the post. She told me to put Bonjela on it and sold me some of that BPA piercing oil to use on the front.
They seem to pride themselves in doing surface anchors, Belle's instagram is full of them. Who knows how many turn out to be actual successes. Cases full of shit jewellery, and acrylic plugs and tapers. When I asked about kaos earskins ages ago they said they only sold the 'solid' (read: knockoff) ones that you get on crazy factory. I find the crappiness of their studio odd since according to Instagram, Belle clearly is aware of quality brands of jewellery (buying them for herself), is in contact with quality piercers and yet doesn't care enough to update their jewellery selection or piercing skills.
