First off sorry in advance if this is in the wrong place, wasn't sure if this'd go here or somewhere in general discussion or artists/artisans or something, i think here is the safest bet though? sorry if im wrong
Ok, so, i've no idea what i wanna do as a career, but one of the ideas i've been considering for a few years now was making and selling jewellery, specifically plugs, mostly out of organics so wood, bone, stone, that sort of thing, and possibly glass? though i think thats an entirely seperate skill correct? And selling them. I've come up with and designed a couple of ideas, but i've no idea what the tools involved to make them would be and if there are any big machines involved. So, if i do decide to do this, i'd want to get an apprenticeship so someone can teach me, it seems the logical route. However, i've no idea what kind of thing i'd be looking for. I thought carpentry, but that seems to be mostly making doors and flooring and things? and Jewellery-making apprenticeships are not only rare but also seem to be mostly metal and things, from what i've seen. Entirely possible i just haven't looked hard enough though. I did one year of BTEC Art & Design at college and got a merit, we had the machines but due to the lack of teachers we didn't have anyone who knew how to use them, so i never got to learn.
So my question is to those who know how to make plugs or any jewellery really that uses organic materials/glass, am i going down the right path here in looking for apprenticeships? If so, what should i be looking for? If that isn't the way to go, how do you get into learning something like that?
Also sorry if this made no sense i'm not very good at explaining myself
