Hey everyone! We know the new forums will take a little getting used to, so here's a few basics on the new layout. To view new posts, click "New Posts" along the top of the boards. This will bring up a list of threads in order of most recent posts. Threads with unread posts will have a New icon next to them like this: Click that button to go to the most recent unread post in the thread. Clicking the thread title itself will take you to the first page of that thread. If there are new posts in a thread you've posted in, you'll see this at the top right. Threads you have posted in will show your avatar on the folder icon next to the thread (desktop version only). To report a post, click the cog at the top right of a post and choose "Report Post." You can message a moderator if you think a post is inappropriate or just use the Report Post feature. To change the forum colour scheme, click on Profile along the top of the screen. Go to Edit Profile > Settings > Forum Theme. We have a few to pick from, we may add more later. You should get a pop-up whenever you receive a new PM. We added a Shoutbox feature. It will show along the bottom of the boards (it may not show on mobile, click "desktop" on the very bottom right to switch) You can tag users by typing @username in your post. To multi-quote, click the gear icon next to the post you want to quote, click "Select". Do this for every post you want to quote. When you get to the last one, click the Quote button and it will add them all to the reply box. To partially quote a post (may not work on mobile), highlight the part of the post you want to quote, and a box marked "Quick Quote" will show up. Click this to add that part to the reply box.

We can, but we were planning on starting fresh with the new forums.
Nobody's post count will be changed.
No-one.

I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE
i want my posts counted because it hurts that they're just shutting everything down. i at least want the number to continue on if not the forums. it's just something that proves they existed. they've been very important to my life.

I actually wouldn't mind carrying my post count over either. It took me sooo long to get the semi-respectable, teeny tiny number I have on the other forums and it's a little disheartening to have to start all over.
I also get that it would be a pain in the ass for someone to have to do that for everyone though.

Thirding the request for post count migration. Or a badge or something.

i'd be glad to do a one-time day-of-admin to update everyone's post count that asks. let me know if that's possible.

With BAF not relinquishing power of the boards we are not able to migrate anything over and it would be impossible to do that manually for everyone as time goes on. You are more than welcome to add your post counts to your posts in the Introduce Yourself thread. I have a feeling that if people post at similar frequencies that post counts can rise quickly. If we start updating user accounts with information it could lead to requests for additional info to be added, and its all a very manual process. Im losing almost 18,000 posts over a 12 year period of my life- most of which has been documented pretty well on BAF. It sucks but if we continue to get older members migrating over here from BAF or through word of mouth on FB, there is no way we could track anything or keep up after December 1st.

that's my point though. i think november 30 could be the one-time-only post-count-update for migrated folks who email me their post count number. it wouldn't be ongoing, just once.
i really don't want to lose all that time, energy, effort... just because BAF is canceling us.
please, guys. i'll put in the work myself to do this for everyone - once only - if you don't have time or don't want to.

We've discussed this as a group and dont really feel its necessary. It wouldnt be fair to update people that have already joined but not new members who were previously on BAF if they decide to join. I know the 30th is a few weeks away but we've seen a lot of people come out of the woodwork to join these forums and I imagine that will continue as word spreads. I know thats not what people want to hear, but we feel for the community aspect we want to keep, continue building, and embrace its the best course of action. Focusing on a no longer existent post count could potentially cause issues down the line, and thats not a place we want to go right now. Like I said above, feel free to document it somewhere on the boards, but we wont be migrating anything from BAF here.
Its like a fresh start and new beginnings with the community we've built somewhere else.

i love that no one has been flexible with me at BAF & no one is finding middle ground here on the point that matters to me either. super cool.

Lish, I understand your connection to your BAF count. We all were part of that community for a long time and it means a lot to all of us. However, none of our post counts has relevance here. As our community continues we'll all grow together. But for right now, we're all on the same boat. We're all starting fresh. So it is going to be our policy to not inflate post counts. I hope you understand.

i understand that perspective. i don't agree with it. i also understand that i don't get a choice. i'm just salty because it's the same exact answer i got from BAF when i was trying to save the community i helped to grow - "we discussed it & no, & there's no middle ground, & even if you offer to do it all the work yourself we don't really care because this is our decision".
i DO appreciate everyone taking the time to write out "no" in various kind ways.
i just want to keep SOMETHING of what's being ripped away from me.

With all due respect, you ARE keeping something from BAF. We've moved here en masse to retain the community structure we've all worked to build. We plan to foster the same conversations and support that BAF held. The community is the users, not the number under your name. And the users are here with you.
