Hi looking for some advice.. I may be going for an operation in the next few weeks; so all of my piercings have to be taken out I'm looking up plastic bars that I could pop in for then but not too sure what size to use - snug is still slightly swollen (pierced a few months ago) so praying it'll ease down. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!

Go to a piercer and have them measure for you. That being said, a) you need to check with your doctor if you can just replace all your jewellery with non-metal pieces, or if you have to remove them completely and b) plastic in an already irritated, fresh piercing is not going to go well. You may have to accept that you'll lose the piercing.

don't feel stupid, it's a fair & common question.
i've had multiple surgeries with my jewelry in place; if you stand firm & let them know you accept the risks, & offer to sign a waiver, that's all it's taken for me. occasionally i've compromised & put in low-profile & non-metal jewelry, but it really depends on what's being done.
when i've been intubated, they really didn't want my tongue barbells left in place because they're a choking hazard & they didn't want me to swallow anything... but *I* know they're not coming out anywhere near easily, so i was comfortable to accept that risk. if they're x-raying you, though, metal could cover things they ACTUALLY need to see. so you really need to understand the risks you're taking on before agreeing to take them on... but my point is there are options. just ask. :)
