So, friends, last night after about a year and a half of considering it and discussing options with my preferred modification practitioner, I finally had my navel reconstructed.
Background: I have had my upper navel pierced 7 times; 5 times in a centered position and once on either upper angle. I had a lot of gnarly scar tissue and was really unhappy with how it looked.
My practitioner (who I'll link to if he posts it publicly, I don't want to call him out unless he's willing) has never done a navel, but I have been his guinea pig before, he's reconstructed lobes before, and I trust him.
Last night we cleaned the area, marked it up, injected some lidocaine. Once I was numb, the cutting began. We went with a sort of y shape, and stitched it closed after.
I'll post a before and after once I snag it from my guy, and I want to keep this thread updated because I haven't seen much at all about it!

Day 0 (11/20/2017) The lidocaine injections were unpleasant, but procedure was fine. Around 2 hours in, lidocaine starts to wear off and I am very uncomfortable. I can't sleep on my side at all; laying perfectly flat on my back is the only comfortable position Day 1 (11/21/2017) Today was not great. I have a kind of constant dull ache and bending at the waist hurts. I went back to the practitioner to get an Briotech (an aftercare solution). That has helped a little bit. Before and after (warning, stitches and mild gore):

That is really really cool to see, I love procedurals! It looks great so far, the reshaping looks really cleanly done.

I've never actually seen anything other than a freshly stitched image so hopefully this could be helpful to anyone considering it. Day two (11/22): I'm feeling much better. I want able to sleep on my side at night but was able to for a post work nap. I was also able to pick off a little scabby bit, which means I wasn't in so much pain that I couldn't touch it. I did end up dropping my phone directly on it at one point which was awful, but were I less clumsy I'd have been pretty much a okay.

Oooh I am so happy you are sharing this experience, I have a similarly "gnarly" navel from multiple piercing/stretchings and have considered having some of the scar tissue removed.

Here I am immediately after stitch removal: My aftercare for now is butterfly bandages, and then eventually silicone scar cream.

Here we are now! After about a week of butterfly bandages, my skin started to react to the adhesive, so now I'm just free to heal. Here's a lil collage of the process: http://instagr.am/p/BcxNmbgFF1G
