I got my lobes repaired and scalpelled by Samppa von Cyborg today! Backstory: I stretched my lobes way back 2 or 3 years ago, I got to 8-9mm when I found BAF forums and discovered I'd been doing it in a harmful way and had caused some scar tissue and blowouts. It was never too extensive, but I'm a perfectionist and left the holes empty since and tried to massage the scar tissue away over a year or so. Even though the remaining scar tissue after a few years or so was pretty subtle, cutting was definitely the way to go to remove it properly, I'm very pleased to be rid of it completely. Keeping aware of subtlety for career reasons is important to me, so I'm aiming to stay at 5mm/4g indefinitely until I have a stable long-term career and field which allows me to have larger lobes (my ultimate goal size is only 9mm though) Since Samppa didn't have any dermal punches available, he cut a hole which was slightly larger than 5mm, aware that it will likely shrink down some after the stitches are out. If it shrinks smaller, I'll just go with it. Marked and prepped: Right ear straight after: Left ear straight after: He managed to cut my left ear a bit smaller, so it will probably be slightly smaller than 5mm when ready to wear jewellery, and the right ear will maybe be a loose 5mm or a bit bigger. My ears are very sore and puffy right now, but I'm so happy with the results so far and just so overwhelmingly happy to have stretched lobes again after so long! Do people want updates on this as I go?

Oooh! I'm interested to see how this goes for you. I had my loves punched at 6g 3 years ago (maybe 2? Time is hard) and they healed wonderfully for me. Curious to know the difference stitches will make!

Curious to know the difference stitches will make! Likewise! My healing time will be really quick apparently, only a few weeks until I can wear jewellery! But I might delay that quite a bit to make sure they shrink as much as possible, since I held up one of my 4g plugs next to them earlier and they're quite a bit bigger - maybe 7mm or so - at the moment.

I think? I'm less swollen now. My ears are still really sensitive and that kind of itchy-tingly of healing skin with a bit of throbbing.
Although I have to say I really hope they shrink at least a few millimetres after the stitches come out, cause they are quite a bit bigger than 4g right now. Obviously there's a limit and ultimately I'm fine with whatever they end up as, but for the sake of remaining subtle, the smaller the better.

I've no idea how this sort of thing usually heals, but I reckon they might shrink up some more once you get the stitches out?

I've been told they will shrink some after the stitches, and I should basically refrain from wearing any jewellery until its the right size.

I got my stitches out on Friday! (9th March) I went to my local GP and the nurse basically said the stitches were too fine for them to take out, so I should go to A&E at the hospital. I get the feeling she just didn't want to deal with them, and I got quite a bit of disapproval from her for going to a mod artist instead of a plastic surgeon. I was expecting a follow-up with Samppa, but since he's already elsewhere on tour and that's not possible - plus they're both out of office for personal reasons for the next week or so.
Instead of waiting 8 hours in A&E I bought some new tweezers and scissors and my partner patiently took them out for me. It was no trouble at all and it feels loads better to have them out. Still a bit red and tender, but all looks great. I had loads of dry skin in the days before I took the stitches out, so it's a massive relief to be able to clean it all off properly.
I will post some pictures later today of how they're doing.

Here's how they're doing so far: Left ear: This ear is a much rounder hole, and is possibly slightly smaller, but they both look like they could fit a loose 4g about now Right ear: This one is more oval shaped, but I expect it may get rounder with the pressure of jewellery. As I recall, the piercing on this ear may have been a bit lower as well. I'm so pleased with how far they've come in under two weeks, the inside of the holes are still red, redder than in the pictures. As to be expected. I can't quite remember whether Samppa said to begin massage with bio oil after the stitches come out, or after I begin to wear jewellery. I've massaged softly for the first time today, and it was good to get some moisture on there. It's a very odd sensation to have holes again after having basically no piercing there for several years and I'm so pleased!

It's been two months since the procedure today! I've been terrible at updating here. I started wearing jewellery at just after a month, first intermittently and now most days. I sleep without jewellery and sometimes go a whole day or so naked. My left lobe is a perfect 4g, and my right is probably 5.5 or 6mm, I haven't got any bigger jewellery to test. Been massaging with bio oil regularly, I can feel the tough scar tissue on the incisions, but other than that they are very smooth. Only a bit tender when I massage, and healing has been a dream. Apologies for the massive pictures, but these are my 6g teal dichro plugs from nirvana, nestled inside 4g earskins. I'm waiting on some anatometal plugs for daily wear, with larger front flares so they won't be in danger of falling out.
