I used to love wearing short, square nails, but my nails hated it lol. They love breaking at the corners, so I gave up and went oval

Same. Makes me mad, because I much prefer short squares.

Apparently my nails hate being filed off straight cos 3 of them split down the middle of the tips today. So back to oval :/ Found a Color Club thermal polish I've never used (I think my sister left it behind on one of her visits) and it's pretty nice. Still kind of sheer even with 3 coats though. Oooo i do like that orange/yellow for fall though. Very festive. I've tried to keep my nails in square before and I just don't understand how people can do it... Mine always break at the corners too. And I feel like I can't use my fingers as well cause they get in the way. Def always keep mine in an almond or oval shape. Related to a convo from ages ago: I was watching Nail Career Education and she happened to mention in one of her videos that nail polish likes a smooth surface to stick to, so I bought a nail buffer and lightly buffed my nails (only used the two finer sides, not the rougher ones) and shined them up. My polish is still chipping at the very edges but it's no longer peeling up in sheets like it had been for a while. Pleased with this discovery.

This is basically the longest my nails have ever been! Does anyone have recommendations for non-MLM nail wraps?

I meant to respond to this ages ago, the only way i can get my polish to last more than a day is to buff, smooth, and polish them with the buffer block and then clean them with nail polish remover. Then i can go on to the base coat, color, and top coat. Its such a long process 😓 but I've consistently kept longish nails for over a year now with only like 3 instances of biting them! Mostly they just break or start splitting on the sides when they get too long.

This is basically the longest my nails have ever been! Does anyone have recommendations for non-MLM nail wraps? I really really loved the Sally Hansen Real nail polish strips. I think they stopped selling them, but it does look like you can find them at Amazon and Walmart if you're willing to try a product no longer in production... Just make sure they're the real polish ones, they also have some that are plastic and those are terrible. I've noticed that some indie polish (especially ones that are like 14-free) doesn't adhere as well. I got some polish from Etsy I posted about a bit back and some of that peeled up in a few days. I don't know if I'd go through that whole process for a few days of polish.

My nails are fucked again (more like, they've been this whole time and I've been in denial about it lol). I think the only way to fix them is to truly stop using gel for a while to let my current nail length grow out completely to new, stronger nail. Back when I first started learning to use gel products, I definitely didn't remove it properly or carefully enough. I'm a lot better at it now, but I think during that time I didn't ever give my nails recovery time and just kept putting gel on top of it. So now my nails are extremely soft and bendy. So I took it all off one last time to just wear base coat polish only again. I'm just hoping after all I've spent on gel supplies, I can wear it again after I really let them grow out

That sucks. My nails have always been shitty and weak no matter what I try. When I first started doing dip nails it was worse because I wasn't very good at removing it and would inevitably peel off a layer of nail. Doing dip nail definitely does some damage but it doesn't seem to be exponential, it stays consistent now. And I've gotten way better at the removal process (why is the rice method not better known??).

What the fuck, I decided to try polygel and what the fuck?? Why did I waste so much time with dip nails?
I need to find forms with a less pronounced c shape because my nails are flatter than the ones I got. I kept getting the center section thicker than I want but the edges too sheer. But I was able to just file down and add another layer along the sides manually, not a big deal.
They are so smooth and pretty! And took half the time dip nails took me!

I've been wearing gel nails for the past couple of months, and I absolutely love them. I get them done at the spa connected to the hotel I work at which means I get a nice discount. Costs me $23 taxes included to get them filled, and when I got them done originally my nails were really short so the nail tech used nail forms because she's not a fan of tips. Right now I'm rocking a bright jungle green with glitter near my cuticles

The New York Times today has an article on three companies that are bringing nail polish robots to market. One device for business use, two for use at home. The more expensive of the home models promises dry, ready to go nails in ten minutes. But the cartridges for that robot cost $10 for three applications.
There is an old Walt Disney Mickey Mouse cartoon that envisions the nail painting robot of the future.
