hey all! sorry this write-up took so long, i was getting photos off my phone and trying to make everything as cohesive as possible.
(also if lish reads this, i'm so sorry for the hairs! i really tried to be mindful of your how to photograph your piercing guide lmao)
((also also there's pictures in this thread, half of which include crusty blood. mind the warning, please!!))
so!
i was a bit dumb and didn't eat a full meal beforehand, but i did have a luna bar and a lot of water and that was somehow enough. (definitely don't do this)
i was VERY nervous because i've never had a large gauge piercing and my lobes haven't been pierced since 2008 and that was a with a gun. 😬 the piercer was super cool and calmed me down a bit by joking and generally being super cool.
but anyway: i got my lobes pierced june 21st at an 8g (3mm) with titanium eyelets. it was done with a needle, and the piercer did not do the taper method.
the procedure wasn’t bad at all, definitely intense but not unbearable. it didn't feel too different from a normal sized needle honestly, the most uncomfortable was the jewelry transfer (which is always the case for me)
my left ear was done first and ended up bleeding a bit, but my piercer cleaned it up. righty bled a tiny bit too but it was such a trivial amount, the piercer wasn’t concerned so we decided to leave it.
they both swelled up almost immediately. my partner suggested i put my hair up after i got them done so my unruly hair wouldn’t get stuck in the clots. we walked to an asian restaraunt and i felt fine, no wooziness or anything. i was really worried about my lobes bleeding in public or getting dirty looks but it was cincinnati, no one cares as long as you're not in the way lmao.
my lobes did bled a little while eating dinner (i assume from either walking or from the little sips of my partner's thai iced coffee i tried), but it clotted up nicely. they bled again before bed but i decided cleaning or soaking would make it worse and to just let it be. i slept with a low pony tail to keep my hair contained.
june 22nd
sleep was pretty awkward at first but i ended up just sleeping on my back as long as i could stand it, or curling my arm around my ear if i needed to sleep on my side (i'm a side sleeper). sam was pretty good about waking me up if he thought i was sleeping ON them or hurting them somehow, :'3
my lil lobes were pretty tender, and the pressure of the swelling was a tad uncomfortable at this point.
the clotting was also kind of itchy feeling?
they both bled some overnight and got nice and crusty. i showered in the morning and just kind of let the water soak into the piercings for a while and then VERY gently massaged them with unscented dr bronners (as per the piercer's suggestion). some of the clots washed off but they were still lookin’ nasty. i left my hair down this day as we were going out for my partners birthday and i didn't want them out on display looking as they did, but before we went to bed i put it up in another low pony.
(picture is pretty much right after i woke up and before the shower)
june 23rd
pretty much the same in regards to clotting/bleeding. no big changes, still kinda sore. i did take a flight back home this day, and i was nervous that being in an airplane would affect my lobes (it did not)
pretty awkward being in such close proximity to strangers and knowing they can see my bloody crusty lobes though. i ended up taking a few ibuprofen for swelling since it was still pretty uncomfortable.
i took a shower and washed my ears with unscented dr bronners later that night and it got pretty much most of the clots off and it felt MUCH better. no more itchiness!
i put my hair up again for bed, and since i was home i used a nursing pillow instead of a regular pillow and that helped me so much as a side sleeper. definitely recommend getting one if you're planning on getting any ear piercings done and you're a side sleeper.
june 25th
a teeny bit crusty and still a bit swollen but no big changes! no more bleeding at this point either.
june 26th-27th
no changes, leaving them mostly alone other than in the shower. at this time, i started doing salt soaks after bathing rather than washing with soap in the shower as it was too difficult to get all the soap residue off. felt much better and was a lot easier.
june 28th
little lobes are looking nice today! not too crusty at all.
june 29th-july 16th:
literally no change at all, healing really well! getting easier to sleep on, even though i definitely wouldn't recommend sleeping on any fresh piercing.
July 17th:
i fuckin ripped out the left eyelet in my sleep somehow and woke up faster than i ever have before. i washed off the jewelry and my lobe, put it back in and did a soak while half asleep. when i woke up for real a few hours later, it seemed just a little tender but not super irritated or anything, and no blood.
that was the last thing to note on though! all in all, it’s been a pretty easy process so if you’re scared like i was, don’t be! the first week was difficult, especially re-learning how to live without hurting yourself or fucking up your piercings but after that is pretty smooth sailing!
im so excited i finally got them done, i've been without lobe piercings since probably... 2012 or 2013. it's been a long time coming, haha! c:
if you have any questions, let me know!
