I wanted to share my experience with getting my prince Albert and Jacobs ladder piercings for those considering having them done.
I had wanted a genital piercing for many years, and about 3 years ago I got my first one; a prince Albert (PA). 6 months ago, I got 4 Jacobs ladder (JL) piercings, and plan to get more. Here's my experience and thoughts thus far.
During my research into male genital piercings, I found that most people tend to agree that a PA is more "practical" for their sex life. As stated by many forums and videos I encountered, a PA allows for more "movement" during intercourse as opposed to a JL that tends to be uncomfortable with friction and copious movement. Essentially, a JL is more for grinding whereas a PA doesn't have that limitation.
When I had my PA pierced, I was pierced at an 8ga with a 3/4 hoop. The piercing itself wasn't so bad, but the healing was horrible for me. My piercer suggested I sleep on an old towel for at least 2 weeks just in case. Little did I know, I would be bleeding for 7 days straight... The bleeding was so bad that I had to resort to prophylactic measures to prevent ruining my clothing by taping several paper towels around myself before I left the house. Even then, I bled through the paper towels within a few hours for the first several days.
After about 2 months of healing with the PA, I custom ordered a curved barbell for myself that had a 1/2 inch ball on one end; the side coming out of the urethra. I did this because throughout the day the jewelry would recceed into my urethra which wasn't so much painful as it was annoying and uncomfortable. This size ball solved that issue once and for all. I had this piece in for the remainder of my healing, which took about 6 months.
During my healing, there was purulent drainage and slough coming from the piercing, but this stopped after the 6 month mark.
Once the PA was healed, I ordered a 6ga bar with the same size ball on one end. My reasoning for stretching the PA is simple. Imagine you're holding a piece of paper. Now stab a pencil through the paper, and apply pressure. It doesn't take much to start to tear the paper. Imagine the same scenario, but this time replace the pencil with a highlighter. It takes a considerable amount of force to begin to tear the paper as compared to the pencil.
My personal experience with my PA has been wonderful. My significant other loves it during our time together, which is the main reason I was interested in these piercings, and she has told me it makes that time more pleasurable. I myself have noticed an increase in sensitivity both during intercourse, and climax.
About 6 months ago I decided it was time to add to my arsenal, so I went and got 4 JL piercings at once. The initial pain was much less than that of my PA, but the healing process has been much more difficult.
For the JL, I was pierced at a 10ga with straight barbells. Before I went, I had an expectation/goal of the final product. I measured my circumference, and I immediately ordered 4, 8ga, 3/4 hoops with the diameter I needed. I replaced my bars with the hoops which wrap around myself and fit snuggly, but not tightly, during arousal.
Because I tend to be impulsive, I did not think about how the new jewelry for.my JL will lay when not "in use", and this created issues. During daily activity I was tugging and irritating the relatively new piercings and my healing began to regress. I have since found a way to keep them from creating that issue, and have ordered straight bar bells that are on back order.
While me and my significant other are having fun, these new additions have made her pleasure skyrocket. I, on the other hand, have to be careful. The forums that I read and the videos that I watched warning of the irritation that vigorous sex can cause has rang true for myself. As time passes, that issue is becoming less and less, but for the last 4 months (allowing 2 months for healing before fun) I have not been able to perform like I had before. I am hoping this will eventually go away, but this seems to be common for JL.
Overall I would recommend that anyone looking into these types of piercings start with a PA over a JL simply for the fact that you can do more, more quickly. The male genitalia is a sensitive area, and the thought of having a piercing there may scare a lot of guys, but I personally believe it has improved our sex life tremendously, and also provided myself with a more substantial amount of pleasure.
