Took out all the tulips that were around the front and side of the house. Ended up with almost a full 5 gallon bucket of tulip bulbs (with stems and buds). Also dug out the mosquito plant that was apparently trying to grow under my house. My mother is planning on replanting everything at her place. I plan on taking out the scalloped edgers-cuz eww-and pouring in rock or mulch. That qont be till next weekend though probably.

Double post but we spent most of this morning and afternoon working on the yard. I got the beds along the house ready for mulch, mulch spread except for along the back where I have to trench, and backyard is tilled and leveled. Tomorrow I will spread the last of my mulch and lay brick borders where needed. If it's not windy we will seed the backyard too. 2 trips to the home improvement store and almost $400 later I'm going to have a decent looking yard. May still need to get walkway pavers but I may skip those since the plan is to put in a garage sometime anyway.

My mother in law gave me a couple dahlia plants, so i need to figure out where to put those, and transplant my irises out of the planter they're in. Haven't gotten anything else done on the house since work opened back up

Got a bit of yard work done this weekend. Trimmed back more of the neighbor's overgrown lilacs that they won't touch, trimmed the lilac bush on the other side of my lot that were encroaching public sidewalk, and mowed my new grass for the first time. I have to spread more seed tonight in places that didn't grow in well and then spray areas of weed regrowth. After all the trimming, I ended up taking 3 loads of branches to the dump so it felt like a productive weekend.

My life is currently this tweet. The three bedrooms in our new house all had carpeting over original hardwood. Fine, some people like carpet. But apparently what the previous owners did was paint v sloppily before installing the carpet, so our hardwoods are riddled with paint, primer, etc. All the carpet is gone now, just trying to get the hardwood back into shape ...

A plastic dry wall/spackling scraper thing will help if you can soften the paint with a warm damp cloth. And Quick Shine floor finish can help bring some luster back. The floors at our other house looked SO GOOD after using it, and those floors are almost 100 years old in most rooms. Depending on how messy they were and how damaged the floors are it may be easier to get quotes on refinishing but thats a whole mess on its own.

Installed a new security system today. Had some vandalism issues last week and put up temporary cameras then but added a wired system that is expandable. So much better quality video and more options.

Our cars got broken into a couple months ago. Both were obviously gone through but we couldn't find anything missing - even the change in my car was still there. My husband had some expensive equipment from work in his trunk, but his trunk sticks and is difficult to open, so it was untouched thankfully.
We already had a Ring doorbell and I finally found a deal for a Ring spotlight camera. Mounted it above the garage yesterday. So far, it's been a great way to meet some of the neighborhood cats.
This last guy we think is the one that's been peeing on my husbands car - he climbed up and napped on the room for at least an hour - I kept opening the Ring app to check in on him

Our hall bathroom toilet has had a slow leak around the base of the toilet for a few weeks. On Friday after I flushed it made a gurgle sound and a bunch of water came out from the base of the toilet, so we turned the water off until we could get to the hardware store. Three trips to Lowes, one to Home depot, and TWO wax rings later, it's not leaking anymore!

We picked up a new toilet over the weekend to replace the one in our master bath, so it looks like our wax ring experience was a good test run. Maybe we can get it down to two trips to Lowes this time

We pressure-washed the house & patio earlier this week, and today i ordered the rest of the hardware for the kitchen cabinets. I'm hoping i can get some work done on them since i have the next three days off I'm tired of looking at the icky blue and dirty hardware every time I'm in the kitchen!

The car port that was falling apart in my back yard is down and cut up. It's now sitting in a small pile where the old falling apart shed used to be. (Notice a trend here?) It looks like I should be able to get at least a 2-stall garage built in the space if not 2 1/2. That will be a project for another year but it's definitely on the list. But for now I gotta haul out the port pieces when it isn't so dang hot out and spray weeds again.

hey hey, i'm reviving this to ask a dumb question: HOW do you all make decisions when it comes to your house? rob & i bought our first house in January and prior to that we'd been renting since... oof, 2014~. before that we lived in my parents house where we didn't make decorating decisions (our bedroom was decorated the same as when 'i' first decorated it at 11 yrs old lol, BRIGHT YELLOW), and before we moved in together he lived at his parents which was always their decision in decorating. but now neither of us are able to make a bloody decision. we've literally painted our bathroom door white, put 2 sample paints on our bedroom wall and 1 on the hallway wall and we're just like ?? we don't wanna do stuff (spend time and £££) and then be like "oh this is shit" because neither of us are able to actually visualise it. I've tried those apps that digitally paint your walls but they're BAD lol. I've got so many things saved on Pinterest for every room but it's hard to imagine it in OUR house. tldr: we've never really had the chance to decorate anywhere now can't make decisions~ (we r inept)
