Grow everybody grow! So right now the weather is absolute hell. Snow, sleet, ice, wind and freezing temperatures. On Wednesday I will be out in the parking lot making signs because presumably we are opening the week after. God damnit Canada. On an inside note I have an avocado pit and a carrot top both stuck with toothpicks in wine glasses full of water because if it's good enough for kindergarten, it's good for me. you in alberta?

Palm did not make it. It was my first container plant and I think I over watered it or it was crabby because of our low humidity (getting a humidifier is my goal for winter). Or both. Or the water. (I had been, but am now even more careful with aging water before using it). I will get pictures when I'm home, but I do have a snake plant I got around that same time that is doing well along with a monstera (I am scared of how big it can get, haha) and pothos which I can hopefully manage in my home's environment - I opened up even more light, too. I have cats but they have shown zero interest in the plants and they are all out of reach - they are also generally just painful (not fatal) if the cats ever did try to chew on them. My wife says I research plants a lot, but I felt like I had to since so many low light plants are toxic to cats in some way! I would love to get an outdoor garden going with vegetables, too, but we have a loooot of yard work to get to that point.

I kind of went on a plant buying spree. Got a few outdoor plants for the deck and quite a few houseplants to add to the cacti I’ve had. Somehow a lot are in various states of “maybe I can propagate this” and “why are you leaning?” Having to learn to just leave the things alone.

My new house has flowers and I have no idea what kind they are or how often I'm supposed to water them. I very much have a black thumb. Is there a general "water once a week" or something? It's actually raining this week so I think they should be good for now but one of my neighbors mentioned watering them for me and I was like "oh, that's a thing you're supposed to do"

We have a few here and they've been a life saver with a few things. We have some people here who can make crazy things stay alive well outside of their zones

Reviving this thread because I have a houseplant ~~problem~~.
I've always had a bunch of plants, but the combination of moving to a house with more window space, COVID, and buying cuttings from etsy has created an issue. I've been propogating a ton of plants in LECA, and sort of just remembered that they'll need to be planted eventually, and uh, where?
Stay tuned as I continue nonetheless to online shop for plants.

You can never have too many plants. You have mostly succulents right? Or you used to. Did COVID change your gardening?
We always just had houseplants but last spring I started growing food stuffs pretty seriously. Our tomatoes did great over the summer. Right now were waiting on our squash and eggplant. Plus I have a bunch of herbs and lettuce. It's all in containers on the balcony. I still can't grow cilantro to save my life and it makes me sad.

I used to be mainly a cactus girl, but I've gotten more into foliage plants as I age. Yes please aroids! I so wish I had more outdoor space for growing food! I really want to try to grow blackberries this summer.

Mine has been over-wintering just fine (it doesn't usually get much below 40F here at night). The days have started getting a little longer and we're having some colder (30F or so) weather come through and I think it's freaking my cilantro out and it's gonna bolt again... I've learned it's just the nature of the plant. Once the weather changes and it gets stressed, no more nice bushy leaves, just stringy flowers. I need to repot EVERYTHING this spring. All my succulents have outgrown their pots and are in desperate need of more room, plus a lot of them seem to just be propagating like crazy so now I have even more plants... I skipped doing tomatoes or anything but herbs last spring, but I really wanna bring it back this year. I'll just get some sprouts from the store instead of trying to go from seeds... i can never sprout them inside because my cats WILL eat them and I don't want that... I grew some red peppers as an experiment and got a few fruits, but i planted them late on a whim so not many and they were small. I also grew garlic as a science experiment last year and have thrown in 4 cloves to plant this year. They seem to be doing ok, but the squirrels climb the building and get to my 3rd floor balcony and dig in my damn garlic!

"They seem to be doing ok, but the squirrels climb the building and get to my 3rd floor balcony and dig in my damn garlic!" This is amazing! We don't have squirrels here so this is extra adorable to me. I suspect it's just too hot for cilantro here.
