I actually had a surprisingly bird-full drive to NH. I ended up seeing 7 hawks, a wild turkey, a swan, two great blue herons, a bald eagle, and a pair of ospreys nesting on top of a cell phone tower.

I've been watching this little fellow grow up all summer (when he's an adult he'll look like the parent in front). He started out as this fuzzy puffball, and I snapped this a few weeks ago so he's lost the fluffy butt now. But it's so cute!

Pukeko! Oh goodness, I love them so much! They were one of my favourite things about visiting NZ. And the chicks are so cute. They look like little black puff balls on stilts!

They're so good aren't they! We call them purple swamphens here but pukeko is way cuter. We had a really good water lily season at my local park where this guy lives so I've been watching them run around on lilypads all summer. It's so cute.
I have really got to visit NZ. All that bird life..

She's back! I've been trying to get a picture of her for a few days, this is the best I managed. I'll get a good one eventually, she's so fast!

Got a better picture this morning. I'm gonna wander out into nature this weekend and see if I can get more bird pictures.

I'm not into bird watching, but the other day when walking the dog through the river valley we saw a giant woodpecker going to town on a tree. I had never seen one before @-@

I had never seen one before @-@ Was it a big Woody Woodpecker looking guy? The big ones called pileated woodpeckers are awesome and can be hard to spot, despite their size. They're really cool!
