I just made homemade scallion pancakes, sweet and sour mock chicken and veg hakka noodles. It was fucking awesome and now I know how to do hakka noodles I don't have to go to the Indo-Chinese restaurant any more where they're starey and a bit rude. Score!

I'm like 72% sure this mud pie is going to be a fail and the lack of sleep is so gonna not be worth it. I'm so disappointed

Hmmmm the mud pie is looking better than I thought. I sampled the pudding layer and it's pretty amazing even for it having espresso powder and subbing Starbucks via and a half tablespoon of regular ground coffee
ETA: mousse layer is a fail im upset. Isk how to fix fuckkkk

My mother gave me a container of turkey noodle soup yesterday. Added a can of broth and baked some flaky biscuits to have with it. It was freakin delicious.

Me trying not to overeat:
Eats half a bagel for breakfast
Decides to snack on the other half after an early dinner
....eats another half later.
Damnit.

I feel like I'm in a food rut. Summer and fall produce is slowing down so I'm digging through my winter repertoire and it all feels kind of blah. Chili, beef stew, roast beast. What does everybody else make for dinner in sweater weather?

i made beef udon last night! it's kinda sweater weather-y? it's like my favorite thing cuz it's pretty easy and there are so many little variations you can do.
i usually marinate thin strips of beef in grated ginger & garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar (sometimes mirin) and cornstarch. and then i fry them in a big pot, take 'em out, & saute some mushrooms & onions in the leftover beef juice stuff. then i add however much water & soup base (or you can just use broth) and some miso paste (i get a ladle full of the water when it's almost boiling and use it to dissolve the miso in a cup before i add it). i let it simmer for however long i can make myself wait, and then add in some of those instant udon packs and put the meat back in.
i like to add in fresh spinach, carrots, green onions. sometimes a soft boiled egg. a little swirl of garlic chili sauce. mmmmmmm

That sounds awesome Haley! I need to hit up the Asian grocery sometime soon anyway. I'll definitely make sure I have all the ingredients to give this a shot.

We have a fireplace in our house so yesterday and today we had a fire. Today I decided to take some leftover peppers, tomatoes and onion and roast them in the coals for the chili I am making tomorrow. I think is will add some nice flavors.

I was attempting to make a vegan meringue for concorde cake, but my chocolate essence had oil in it so my aquafaba deflated. On the plus side, it's going to make some awesome sorbet tomorrow with some salted caramel chips mixed in. The churn is in the freezer now.. I am hoping my fuck up turns into something edible!
