I have a question for those of you who can knit. I'd really love to learn, and have tried and failed in the past to teach myself via youtube. There's a couple of beginner classes that start in the next month, and I've decided to take one. The closest class is only two sessions. Does two 1.5 hour classes seem like enough instruction to get the hang of it? The other class is five sessions, but it's all the way across town at a less convenient time.

You should at least be able to get the hang of basic knit stitches in that time. Maybe knit in the first lesson, purls in the next? The way I was taught, my grandma or auntie would start up a little piece in garter (all knit) stitch and showed me how to do knit stitches. Once I got the hang of that, they'd show me how to purl. THEN they taught me how to bind on and off. I found it so much easier than learning to cast on first, and I understood the stitches better.
What is it that you found most difficult? I hated the way I was taught to cast on until I found long-tail cast on:
There are different ways to hold the yarn too. It took me a while to figure out the most comfortable way to hold my needles. I also find circular needles much easier to handle than straight ones.
I might be able to give suggestions at least, if there's something specific that you had problems with!

There is a local con coming up this weekend so I am attempting to update my fallout armor in time.

What is it that you found most difficult? I don't even know how to explain it. I'll get started and think things are going okay, then realise it's all a total clusterfuck and I've been doing it wrong for a while. But I can't tell exactly what went wrong where, and have no idea how to backtrack. That's why I hope resorting to in-person supervision will help. I may give it one more try with the video you posted though. That doesn't look like what I was doing before. For the record, I can also be French braiding hair, accidentally switch to a Dutch braid, and not realise anything is off until the finished product is all wonky. It's possible that crafts resembling knotwork just aren't for me.

Having a teacher is just more helpful for some people. I used knittinghelp.com and idk that did it for me. But I found with students that some of them need to look directly at your hands, and follow exactly what you’re doing. You might be one of those people Also there’s ways to control working yarn with your left hand OR your right hand: continental vs English. I do better with it in my left hand, continental style.

My problem with knitting is that I haven't quite found the right way to do it. English knitting works for me (a lefty), but I go very slowly, which is annoying because I'm impatient heh. I messed around with continental knitting for a little bit, but my stitches came out too loose. It seems like everybody knits differently so it's kinda hard to figure out D:

It's not October yet, but Michaels had all their Halloween stuff on sale. So, I made a wreath. (Photo will likely be huge, sorry)

I think I found a product that will work for my skull project. It is called Glitter It and I did some tests with different glitters in glass ornaments. I snapped a few quick pictures of the holo ones for you guys because they're the best. I'll take better pictures and videos once the skull is complete. So many rainbows! I'm not sure if I'll go with the larger or smaller ones. Any opinions? Also, there is glitter fucking everywhere.

I'd go with the smaller glitter. It's more sparky.
Also, I feel your crafting pain.

the smaller cell glitter looks great! i mean, i'm still horrified by it, but that'll fit the skull nicely.

Thanks guys That's what I was leaning towards. Lish, I think when you see video of the final product you will fully see why I love holo so much and wanted it specifically. I think you'll appreciate the rainbowness of it all I don't think you'll be any less horrified though. My whole porch sparkles right now

My whole porch sparkles right now i definitely understand - i also love holo! photos are amazing & fascinating & all good things! i just don't want it anywhere near me unless it's 100% safely encapsulated in something that won't get on me. X) i am really stoked for your photos though - especially since you've put in so much effort to test & try & strive for just the right look. it's gonna be cooooool.

Justine, that glitter is amazing! The smaller glitter is so pretty. So I made some needle minders for my cross stitch. I've been cross stitching for almost 10 years and never knew needle minders were a thing until I saw a beautiful tiny panda hanging out on someone's WIP in the cross stitch subreddit. It was adorable and function, all I needed to convince me that I needed my own. I immediately bought some magnets and put them in my "I'll get to this eventually" box (I'm actually embarrassed to say I've been using two plain magnets to hold my needles since then). The day finally came and I made these yesterday. The dachshund was from a fused glass necklace I got from a local craft fair, and the ghost was part of a Halloween cookie lot I got from Petra.

Legend of Zelda sampler finished. I posted this on a cross stitch FB page also and was immediately informed the apostrophe is out of place. Oh well?
