My very rock-pitted windshield finally had a crack form in it, and it expanded across nearly the whole width of my windshield on the drive home. Which means I get to call my insurance company and have them pay to have it replaced! Yay, new windshield!

- finally cracked a smartphone screen - $150+ to replace the glass on a 3yo galaxy s7 (or ~$30 for a kit with 50% negative reviews on amazon), so no - raged & prepared myself to pay $700+ & spend all weekend syncing everything - decided grudgingly on the s9 - the kind lady at the at&t store understood that New Phone Day is basically Brightest Living Hell for me - though i'm a "pay in full or don't buy it" type for anything smaller than a car, she did a no-interest $25/mo on my bill, which means i can get my company to pay for most of it while also not ending up paying $900 for a $600 device (galling) - PLUS she pulled a loophole to give me a fancy $45 glass screen protector for free if i'd set up a directv appointment, which she encouraged me to call & cancel the next day XD - after working on it for approximately 12 straight hours, i think i'm back to where i was yesterday morning when i did the stupid fucking thing that broke the glass in the first place.
so, it worked out pretty okay. i lost my weekend & my shoulders ache from configuring everything, but the financial side went far better than expected. now to buy the exact same case i used on my last two phones & a bunch of fucking micro usb to usb c converters, & this Surprise Awful Project will be complete.

i bought a rather sizeable (30x30") custom printed canvas, with frame, from a place online that gives "90% off for first time buyers!!!", which really just means their pricing structure is insane... but their examples looked good & the final price was within spec for what i was after - $155 shipped. it arrived a couple weeks ago & it looked fucking perfect, way better than i'd hoped... except that UPS forked the box & dinged the frame at the bottom corner. when i contacted them expecting a replacement piece of frame or a small credit, they weren't able to do either - but they firmly insisted on reprinting & reshipping the entire piece. i don't understand their business model, but i can't argue with their perfectionism! (nah, i'm guessing it has to do with making a UPS claim - i'd bet it's easier to get fully reimbursed for obvious UPS-caused damage than to chase a partial credit.) so now i have an extra canvas with a pretty silver frame that i can repaint or part-out.
also: i ordered lunch yesterday from the place down the street. they didn't have one item, & i opted to take it off the order instead of replace it with something else... which i guess confused their system? this morning they refunded the entire bill, AND put the $5 credit i'd used back on my account. so i had lunch from them again today with that. :)

completely free things i get to enjoy today:
- premiere tickets to the new maleficent movie - medium popcorns & beverages for myself & my friend (vouchers from the imax seat i bought last year) - a new sandwich at the place i often order from at work (they like to drive word of mouth for new offerings by just giving away a ton of it, a strategy i gladly support :D) - a ride home after the movie so i don't have to bus/uber (as i'm headed over straight from work & my car's at home)
fun :)

Money I saved the company that I work for: We were having a clear out a couple of years ago and I found a wall planner from 1992 which was still sealed. I googled when it would next be useful, which turned it be 2020, so I held on to it and today I stuck it up on the wall! I'm telling everyone it's a cost saving initiative.
Unfortunately Easter and one of the bank holidays are wrong so I had to correct those with a Sharpie, but it's providing me with some amusement at least!

I saved over $150 usd on a single piece of jewelry (no stones) by buying from an overseas shop rather than New York City shop- even though I live in lower Ny.

i've been vaguely considering upgrading my beloved roomba 770 to the s9+, which even empties its own trash... but i don't need to upgrade. then today one of my local employees mentioned he wants a roomba! long story short, he's buying my old one. after $100 off online, $90 off from signing up for a best buy credit card, the $300 we agreed on for the 770, & cash back from my primary credit card (i like to leave it to accrue until there's a real REASON to use it, so it doesn't apply invisibly)... i'm literally spending $20 out of pocket for a $1100 device. & it'll be here tomorrow. ^_^

i do the "drive safe & save" thing with state farm for my car insurance, which basically means i turn on bluetooth whenever i go somewhere, & their app tracks my driving. (i use GPS anyhow, so the privacy aspect doesn't bother me.) generally my only markdowns are in speed, heh, but complying with it saves me an extra $90-130 per six months. i just paid through august & my discount was nearly $170. ^_^
by the way, the roomba s9+ is fucking wonderful. it does a significantly better job than the 770 & has excellent functionality with the app. i'm extremely pleased with it. :)

I ordered 2 hanging planters to hang on my new plant stand in my sun room. They basically have a ring attached to the base, a chain, and then a second ring for hanging. On one of the two, the hanging ring was missing.
Emailed customer service, resolution was a refund for the one with the missing piece.
Turns out, though, the way my plant stand is set up, they hang better without the chain and second ring at all. Works for me!

I wanted the Blu-ray for "I Origins". It's an interesting little film with some excellent big moments, but the Blu-ray is out of print and I don't like it enough to spend $60 on eBay. It's not OOP in Germany, though, and I have a region free player! 20 bucks shipped ^_^

Amazon had a glitch a few days back on this Chi straightening brush - 40% off subscribe and save. Because I need a new brush every month? Signed up, paid $41, then cancelled the subscription once it arrived today. I'd been eyeing up the $170 GHD version for a while but that seemed excessive. Looks like the glitch is fixed now, or at least not showing up for me.
