I got my Wicked polish in the mail and tried it out, but it just turned out black. D: I have to practice applying thinner coats, I guess. Still kinda bummed about my stumpy nails, so I decided to do a sparkly thing to them to raise my spirits.

I'm throwing around the idea of trying out acrylics. Is there anything I should know? Is there anything I should look for in a shop?

I find biogel feels more natural and it doesn't yellow like acrylic does. I haven't broken any nails with biogel but I have with acrylic and it hurts lol. I imagine the same with biogel as well because it's bonding to your nail.

Thanks. I've never heard of biogel so I will have to look into that!

I tend to get away with two layers but I definitely wouldn't say that I paint with thin coats ever and mine definitely comes off as red Try taking less on the brush from the start and then adding a little more if needed to even it out Guysss. Can we take a moment and appreciate these two from Zoya's Enchanted Holiday collection. I haven't wanted any polishes Zoya in my collection until these came along. Unf. I need. Olivera up top and Alice below - in case the labels are a tad difficult to read (Note: It's not that I dislike Zoya as a brand for any reason, I just like to stick to a smaller selection of brands, so if I find a color I like by Zoya I will search for dupes within for example Essie's or OPI's range.)

I paint with a very heavy hand though, so two coats was still streaky for me. Fantastic formula, I just need practice as well Guysss. Olivera looks soo pretty, I've been ogling that one since it came out!

I don't have Essie Wicked, but it looks in photos to me like China Glaze Prey Tell, which is a beautiful almost-black red jelly. I do wish it was a little more red and less black, but it's still gorgeous and I love how shiny jellies are. My KL Polish order finally shipped! I was hearing about some people who didn't even pre-order already getting their orders so I was like wtf, but I'm glad it shipped now and wasn't too crazy of a wait. I get that it's tough for brand new brands, especially indies, to gauge how their turnout will be with new launches. eta: forgot to add a pic of my current mani. Zoya Mallory. LOVING this because it's dark, but not so dark it's black. You can still tell it's blue. Really great formula, too. Almost opaque in one coat, but I needed a second to cover some bald/uneven spots.

I don't think Wicked is even near black and it definitely doesn't turn out that way when I wear it, but then again when I think of "blackened red" I don't think about Wicked, but about Lancelot by A England: And when I compare Wicked and CG Prey Tell I would say that PT is way darker and somewhere in between Lancelot and Wicked so if you wanted a lighter color than that, Brittany, I'd say Wicked is that!

Ohh I may still have to pick it up sometime, then! I was avoiding it because I thought it may be too similar to Prey Tell. I have been looking for a dark red that's not practically black. The only one I currently have is Formula X Vampira.

I used to paint my nails/do nail art all the time, and I've been getting back into it the last few months. My nails grow so much nicer when I actually take care of them, and I seem to have found a good top/base combo that keeps my polish on even at work and being a cashier is hard on manicures! Most recently, I did some Christmas nails! I really want to get into buying more indie polishes or just stuff that I can't get at the drug store, but money is an issue (shipping to Canada is always $$$), so nail art kind of helps the lemming to buy all the things!

What top and base polish are you using?

What top and base polish are you using? I'm using Essence's "The Gel" top and base. It's dirt cheap, and it works SO WELL, and I'm normally a person who gets chips in a day or so no matter what else I use, but with this, I've gone around a week with only chipping on my right index finger, and just tip wear everywhere else. Plus it's shiny, and it dries pretty quick, especially combined with their drying drops.

I've found that getting sculpted forms instead of gluing on tips really helps prevent them from breaking. I like the feel/look of gels better but I get acrylics more often because the less time spent underneath a UV lamp the better for me. Gel forms always burn me while they're setting

Gel forms always burn me while they're setting I don't particularly notice a difference in time with biogel vs acrylic but I haven't had acrylic in years so it could be my memory. Sometimes it's uncomfortable when they cure but I think its because my natural nail is incredibly thin due to a combination of health issues and bad applications. Since changing salons I don't think they've gotten worse but they haven't gotten better, thickness wide overall but I definitely think that's health related because when my thyroid level was in a normal range they were actually thicker again. I'm probably going to regret it but I'm going to wait until a few days prior to surgery to get my nails done again. The hospital is okay with French which is what I'll do but I really should do it in 2 weeks vs. 4. Oh well. Super long nails it is.
