Anybody with their septum pierced have chronic allergies that cause sinus symptoms? I'd love to get my septum pierced, but I wonder if I'd be setting myself up to fail. I can usually keep my allergies under control with a daily nasal spray, but I wouldn't be able to use that while it was healing. Do you mean like Flonase? I use mine without issue and don't recall issues with it during healing.

I've decided that I am 100% getting a septum piercing! I've got my piercer picked out (nothing but glowing reviews - and tons of them - on yelp), and I'll be doing it at the beginning of my vacation time in January. Until then, I will be drooling over jewelry and pics of other peoples' septum piercings.

I had my septum pierced roughly five years ago at a 12g, and slowly stretched it to a 6g over the course of a year/year and a half where it's sat comfortably until a week ago when I decided to stretch up to a 4g. Unlucky me soon realized that the pleasent dead stretching was no longer an option, and so the marathon of taping and denting has begun. Oh the pressure.

After almost losing my 8g pincher numerous times when it fell out upon wiping my nose, I decided it was earskin time. 8g 1/4 inch clear earskin, absolutely perfect in my nose. So much easier to get in than the 10g, and (unfortunately) 1/4 inch is the right wearable for me. I'm free to wipe my nose again!

I've got a few questions about my septum piercing... I guess I jinxed it by posting that it was doing great and had healed like a breeze in the general piercing forum. So, it's been pierced for a little over three months, I've been changing it for about a month. I don't change it super often, maybe once or twice a week, and I always clean it and the jewelry beforehand, yada yada. Anyway, it's been totally fine, and I'd been wearing an Anatometal clicker/seamless ring in it for about a week and a half. I bought a CBR from my piercer last night though (sealed and sterilized and good quality) and decided to switch it today. I took my clicker out and started to put my CBR in, realized I needed to stretch the gap open some more and went to get some pliers to do so. Then when I got back and got everything sterilized again, I couldn't for the life of me find the piercing/get it in from either side. I panicked and kept trying for about 30 minutes, and finally I switched to an internally threaded circular barbell which I FINALLY got in, but the sliding through wasn't painless or easy like it usually is. It was kind of tight and sore feeling. I did a sea salt soak earlier just in case I broke anything open, and will continue those regularly until everything seems okay again. Now the side that I finally found the hole on is sore, mostly just if I move the jewelry, and my piercing is tighter than usual. So a few questions: Is it possible that it had started to close up after that short of an amount of time, like 30 or less minutes? Is the soreness and tightness I'm feeling now something like an infection, or is it more likely just aggravated/a little puffy from me blindly poking around so much? What should I do to remedy the soreness besides SSS? And finally, do you all have any methods to avoid the panicky "oh no I can't find the hole" issue? (Although I did notice later, after I got the CBB in, that I can see the hole if I push my nostril up, so maybe I'll just try that from here on out when changing.) Thanks so much. Sorry for the novel.

It definitely sounds like it's been irritated some from all the poking, also the one side of the hole you couldn't find might have closed slightly and will need some time to loosen up again around the jewellery. I doubt there's an infection since everything was sterile. I reckon you can just leave it be and it'll feel better. When I accidentally damage one of my piercings like that, normally before I realise it it's been a few days and it feels normal again. A concave taper might help you out, I always use a threaded taper for my lip piercings, and it's helped out to no end. I always put my finger over the exit hole as I try to find the entry hole, if that makes sense, so you can tell it goes through right. But also I think over time you'll start to know where the hole is more instinctively

Sorry for the novel. Your piercing is still so new and the skin that started forming in the fistula is very sensitive and fragile, so things like that can happen if you poke around too much. I would definitely say that you have been changing jewelry a little too often still for that fresh a piercing. You should not feel bad over it though, I made my own septum piercing bleed from a clicker that got stuck in it at one point too. The soreness and tightness is a sign of inflammation which is a normal defense-mechanism in your body, your piercing got swollen and tender as part of that. You could get an infection, sure, but the chance is very small provided that your jewelry and hands were somewhat clean and you have a normal, functioning immune system. It will pass by itself and I personally would avoid the saline soaks because unless you have blood there, you haven't actually broken the tissue so the SSS will at best dry your nose out and annoy it even more. Just leave it alone until it calms down and try not to change the jewelry as often in the future! When the piercing is completely healed and well-established it will be able to take way more abuse but until then you need to be a little careful and let it do its thing. I change all of my jewelry just by feeling and knowing how to really... I tried with a taper early on when I had my septum done at 14ga but that only made it harder to get the jewelry in, imo. Practice will make it perfect It will help though if you have everything prepared before you remove the current jewelry, that way you don't need to stress about opening rings up and the like.

Got it! Thanks you all! It's already feeling better today than it was yesterday. I didn't do another SSS, because there's no blood or crustiness. I've decided to just leave in the CBB, flipped up, since I'll be with my family (who dislike it) for the next two-three weeks for the holidays, and let it relax and do its thing. I'll also switch less in the future. I might try and get a 16g taper to see if it helps me or not, but it's not my biggest worry atm since I won't be changing it again for a while.

I took my septum retainer out last night and it whistles now! When I used an earskin very briefly before it whistled too. For folks that use just earskins at larger sizes, do you get whistling? And if so does it whistle all the time cause that could get annoying very fast.

Mine whistled so badly at 10g that I could NOT wear an earskin. It was the most annoying thing ever. Now at 4g, I wear an earskin pretty much all the time- not a peep.

Ooh good! My goal size is 4g I wonder why it's different, probably cause if there's a tiny bit of air going through it's forced through but if the hole is larger there's more room for the air to travel freely Might be pulling that logic out of my ass but it'd give me hope if that's the case

I thought the same-- it was whistling because air was moving through such a small passage. But yeah, I'm really glad it's not an issue now. An earskin is the most comfortable thing ever for my septum.

Well, a few weeks of gradual taping, and my septum welcomingly accepted my 4g glass plug. There was some obvious denting at first, but all in all it was a pretty easy stretch. Not as bad as I thought it would be after initially realizing I couldn't just dead stretch up another size. If I decide to go larger in between sizes will be my best friend.

wasn't happy with my gws order. the front disk was just too big, and took up too much room in my nose. way too uncomfortable after a while.
i was gonna go ahead and order from gorilla glass, but i saw a few people on here post about nirvana glass, so i did a custom order for 5g pieces. so excited!
