Lots of awful side effects of essure, including organ perforation from the metal bits moving around. Huge lawsuits, bad idea all around.

organ perforation from the metal bits moving around This is also why I didn't want Filshie clips. Too many stories of migration. I don't know why anyone would even use them when cutting and burning is an option and you don't have a foreign object in there for 50+ years.

Cutting and burning also seems to have less of a failure rate than the implanted devices and while it is a surgery (and there's always risks) it's a pretty simple procedure, all things considered.

Yeah, mine was not a big deal at all. My husband said I was only in there for 45 minutes, if that. And that was from the time he was sent to the waiting room to the time he was told I was out. Recovery was two or three days, scar is tiny.

I think there's a class action suit against essure right now. I've heard a LOT of horror stories about Essure :/ Jeez! Good to know, thank you!

Has anyone had both copper and hormonal IUDs? Which is better? I've had my copper one for a little over a year now and I think it's settled as much as it's going to. It's live-withable but I still don't really like it and I'm considering switching to a hormonal one.

on the topic of sterilization - they've found the fallopian tubes are the most common starter place of cervical cancer. in my tubal ligation, my fallopian tubes were removed entirely, & that's common process now for women who Definitely Want No Babies. i have three small scars from the laproscopy & it was a generally uneventful surgery & recovery except for a laproscopy side effect that affected my lungs due to my scoliosis. anyhow, i'm glad to answer questions about the procedure as needed. the peace of mind alone has been well worth what little i spent out of pocket.

lishd: how old were you before they let you go ahead with sterilisation? If you don't mind me asking. I'd get it done tomorrow but in the UK they tend to want you to be over 30 or some similar age before they consider you for it. I'm hoping to get a hysto before then, but if not this would be my option.

I have an appointment for on the 28th to discuss getting a tubal. I should probably have some questions, but I can't think of any. The procedure itself seems straightforward. I'm mostly concerned that he'll just say no, or refuse to do it without clips.

If those are important to you, go in with info and questions based off those.
"can you do it without clips" "if not, why?" "would you consider it if I understand x,y,z are risks vs a,b,c with the clips" "If you feel I'm too young, what do I need to provide that I have thought this out, and this is what I want for myself" "Do you know any other doctors who might be willing to give me a second opinion"
