I'm terrible about throwing out papers. What if I need that paycheck stub from like four years ago? Thankfully, I was able to snag a Fujitsu scansnap from work that we were throwing out (it's a bit damaged/slow and Fujitsu no longer offers support so we ordered a replacement - still works though) and I'm scanning/archiving and shredding the hard copies that I don't need anymore. It's clearing out a lot of my clutter in my desk area not to have papers about all willy nilly. i am so the opposite of this. i can't keep track of an important document to save my life, unless it's in my glovebox, wallet, or a frame.

What if I need that paycheck stub from like four years ago? I took a giant pile of this type of stuff, some as old as 15 years and stuck it in the firepit tonight, and every time it started to die down I took another pile out. I'm tired of moving it with me, moving the boxes its in from room to room, and going through it each time I do a deep clean and getting frustrated with it.

I just semi realised that I've never put my college certificate or my degree in frames. Oops. I don't even know what I did with them either.

Old topic, new reply!
I've been doing like reasonably well with decluttering for the past 6 months. Ive been making myself try on clothes that I've just been holding onto and confirming that so many of them either 1) don't fit, 2) don't look good or 3) aren't my style anymore. I've also made some really big progress on my makeup; so much old stuff is gone and I'm actually using and finishing things!
I think the biggest change that I can see, though, isn't actually with what I own. I was clearing out my browser bookmarks, and just deleted at least 90% of them. I just don't seem to want as many things as before!

I started the great purge around this time last year, and I'm still not done. I started with clothes, I've done two rounds of wardrobe decluttering and I'm planning on number three this week. Sold off the majority of my jewellery collection and I'm in two minds about getting rid of the rest since I'm going to get my lobes stitched up and I don't know if I'll bother stretching them again. I threw out makeup, perfume and art supplies that I don't use and I'm pretty happy with what I have left, for the moment. I also recently went through my record collection and put about a third of it up for sale. Next up will be books, I think. Then yarn, but I've already quickly gone through that so I have an idea of what I'll keep and what I won't. The biggest and most difficult category that I keep putting off is general crap that I have lying around, but I have most of it in bags in the spare room right now, along with things I have up for sale so they don't get mixed back in with what I'm keeping.
I've been loosely following the Konmari method. There's a specific order you're meant to work in and you're supposed to thank everything before you throw it out, I don't do any of that but some of the ideas are good, like working through categories rather than rooms and anything you forgot while gathering stuff to go through automatically goes in the 'get rid' pile.

My bedroom is really bad and I've always had issues with cleaning. But yesterday I told myself I would get one spot done and now I can open most of the drawers on the dresser the stuff was in front of. It made me feel good.

I went through my nail polish collection and got rid of ~200 bottles... and I still probably have more I can get rid of. It wasn't as satisfying as I thought since I store all my polish in drawers and they're small anyway, so it didn't feel like it made that much of a difference. Oh well, it'll be nice when I move at the end of the year to not have to pack as many polishes.

I have totally had it with how awful the living room gets in just a couple of days, so I just had a semi-panicky cleaning session in the living room and rounded up all the toy cars, random blocks, little figures, Duplo, and all the other loose shit and chucked it into a bin to go up to the kid's room. I can't deal with having my living space taken over by his toys. I'm making a new house rule: Big cars and trucks can be downstairs, but no more moving fifteen little fucking cars out of my seat on the couch before I can sit down. Now his room will be a train wreck, but that's sooo much better than our collective space being unlivable.

For some time my landlord has been talking about getting a dumpster rental for the building I live in. There are three apartments in the building, and I'm sure we all have loads of crap we need to just throw out, but it's hard when the weekly municipal garbage collection doesn't take all the items that we need to get rid of, and the city (in their infinite wisdom) decided to do away with bulk garbage pick up where we could schedule one of their trucks to come out to take stuff that wouldn't ordinarily go into regular garbage - this is how I got rid of a horrible broken couch that I'd been putting up with for too long.
I'm really hoping the landlord actually rents a dumpster and puts it near my living room window. It will make it easier to just open the window, remove the screen (that I need to repair anyway) and toss stuff into the dumpster that way. I'm on the third floor and I'm sure that going up and down all those stairs would kill be before I'm even half done!

We've been doing this. Purging a ton of stuff. Especially with the probable move to Australia at some point. There are things I kind of regret throwing out, but ultimately, it's just stuff.

I decided to get a deck box from work this week. My little porch tends to collect random things so going through it all and tossing the garbage is the plan for this week. I'm just happy for it to look less cluttered.

chipped away at our bedroom mess today!
it's always the fuckin clothes. i wait too long to do laundry, do a bunch, never fold all of it, and it ends up overflowing from the clean laundry basket. in the mornings i'm digging thru a pile of clothes frantically to find that *one* shirt that i just *need* to wear that day 10 minutes before i have to leave and next thing i know my bed is surrounded by a nest of clothing. eventually i can't tell what is clean and what isn't so i do a bunch of laundry and IT ALL REPEATS.
it's midnight and i'm folding my 2nd load of laundry.
