Obviously minimalism has been a thing for awhile, but with the new year coming I feel like it's time to get rid of some old shit in my life. Makeup, clothes, shoes, plain old things ... I don't want stuff to take up space that I don't use and love.
Anyone else taking on some decluttering or similiar?

I recently decluttered a TON of my stuff when I moved, and now I'm trying to keep a minimal amount. My closet has like 1/4 of the amount of stuff it used to have. My mom is borderline a hoarder, and I definitely have hoarding tendencies, so I'm trying really hard to combat that. I got rid of so much makeup that I just don't use, a ton of nail polishes, clothes, etc. and it feels sooooo good just not having as much stuff now.

I haven't yet, but I'd like to go through my polishes and makeup and declutter the stuff I never wear. Hell, I should even do that with my clothes because I wear a lot of the same clothes all the time and some of them I don't touch.

One of my rules is that for every new thing I acquire, I get rid of an old one. I've also been hacking away at things using the Konmari method because UFYH methods didn't work for me long term. Konmari has you connect with your belongings and discard anything that doesn't elicit a positive gut reaction and create a place for each item to go so you don't lose/trash anything. Definitely recommend checking it out if you want to minimize.

I did a massive purge a few months ago, but I need to go over things again. I'm moving in with the boyfriend in a few months and I know I don't want to move all of this stuff.

I desperately need to do this, but I've been down for the most part since knee surgery and I don't have enough range of motion or stability yet to be able to get up and do all the decluttering and shit that I want/need to do.

I dumped a bunch of stuff on my desk to the point I couldn't see it anymore so I had a go at it today somewhat. I have a bunch of stuff to still deal with (mostly Christmas presents) and then just regular cleaning on top of that. I'm going to wait a while longer before washing my sheets so I can get the germs out of them.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was told at my post-op appointment. My Drs Nursing assistant told me that I probably wouldn't have full range for at least another few weeks. She said to only do things as is comfortable and I guess I took that a bit to literally lol. I had orientation on my campus today and people were being mother hens to me, asking why I was only on one crutch or no crutch at all a couple of times, and that I'm pushing myself to hard to soon. Upside though, I had stitches removed and replaced with steri strips, which was stupendous because I was finally allowed to shower. <3 But yeah, I have the same problem myself. I have a desk and a table which both have all kinds of stuff stacked on them. My room in general right now just looks like flipping world war II hit it. I have a bunch of clothes and stuff I need to sift through and get rid of because some of the stuff I can't/don't wear anymore.

I'll be moving in about 6 months so until then I will be going through everything that's mine and my child's. Can't really do anything about my partner's stuff but it's a start. Clutter makes me anxious and my partner is a knick- knack person so it can be difficult to keep minimal possessions.

Thank you for this thread, I also need to declutter really badly. Hopefully this'll help with motivation.

I'm another one who is in serious need of decluttering. It's hard to believe that about 9.5 years ago that my kid and I moved across the country with only what we could fit in four big suitcases and four carry-ons, starting completely fresh in a new city. Now we have more stuff than I could ever imagine we'd have, and I can safely say that we have more stuff than we did prior to purging pretty much everything to fly across Canada!
I keep saying to myself that I should pretend that we're doing a huge move like that again so I can get rid of so much crap we really don't need. Like, do I really need that chip & dip set I've never used? Or all that junk that has been stored in a big plastic bin for five years? One of these days I'll be able to take a large enough string of days off so I can power through the clutter and only keep what we really need.

Some I can justify, some I can't. I also am happy when I am like fully stocked with everything, but simultaneously anxious because clutter. I went through just my cream eyeshadows last night and got rid of them all. I liked the way they looked but 1) they're hard to apply with my nails, 2) they're drying out and 3) I have near replicas (for most) in powder shadows. It's one thing to say, oh I love this one for a simple eye look and another to say, yeah but I haven't worn it in a year or more. I got rid of a silver cream shadow that's kind of bothering me though. Now I don't have a pure silver shadow, and like WHAT IF I NEED SILVER SHADOW??

I'm going through and deep cleaning rooms with plans to also de clutter. I have enough clothes for 4 people. It'll be great when it's done. I purged a lot when I moved last spring, but not enough.

i just went clothes shopping and told myself i was gonna go thru my wardrobe afterward, so i'm taking this thread as a sign to do it this weekend.
usually i'm one of those "go thru everything and throw away like half ur stuff" every year kinda ppl but since i moved out of my parents' house & acquired a whole townhouse & a much bigger bedroom to collect shit i've kinda neglected it.
my room is also a disaster zone rn so maybe i'll do before & after pics if i feel like sharing lol

I'm terrible about throwing out papers. What if I need that paycheck stub from like four years ago?
Thankfully, I was able to snag a Fujitsu scansnap from work that we were throwing out (it's a bit damaged/slow and Fujitsu no longer offers support so we ordered a replacement - still works though) and I'm scanning/archiving and shredding the hard copies that I don't need anymore. It's clearing out a lot of my clutter in my desk area not to have papers about all willy nilly.
