I feel so lucky to have the NHS, even though its been ripped apart and half defunded by the tories, having a financial barrier to treatment would be so much worse.
Knowing I could walk in one day and walk out with a prescription and surgery referral letter if only I had the money for it would be even more stifling than waiting 5 years in a broken and underfunded system. Especially if I were suicidal as so many of my trans siblings are.

Also getting T sounds like a freaking hassle in the states @-@ I don't think it's that tedious where I live. Althought I've never had to go through the process Yeah, I am in the UK, I've always been under the impression it's really easy in the states if you have the right insurance or can afford it or something. The US medical system sounds complicated and terrible though, but at least you guys use informed consent in some places. In the UK it's simple but lengthy. We don't have to pay, but you do pay in waiting time and jumping through hoops I guess. Oh that pun is fabulous A++ the best I don't have any close friends who have gone through the process of trying to get on T, but I have aquaitences and work with alot of trans people and althought I don't go and pry and ask about the logistics- I feel like I know people who have been able to get on in in under 3 months. I mean Canadas medical system is like 100x better than the states tho lolol

Woah that's quick! I was wondering about how Canada works w trans things, it's one of the places I'd consider living if there was decent trans care. I'll probably stay put with moving now until I'm all done medically since I don't wanna lose my progress.

The process could be taking long, but I don't feel like its 3 years.

I've taken the first step of many in trying to get my physical health fully back on track. Now that I've finally got my doctor's go-ahead I'm going to go for it - I've got free access to the gym in the building I work at so why not make use of it, right? I'm starting slowly so there's none of this 'no pain, no gain' bullshit. I did my first round of cardio this past Saturday and I'll be doing my next round tomorrow. At this point I'm not doing any weight training because that would be too hard on my joints, so cardio it is 3x a week for at least a month. I have a check-in with my doctor in a month so we'll see how I'm doing then to see if I can add at least one light cross-training session in a week.

I'm gonna try to get back on board with fitness too. Bought some mela replacement shakes to start and i want to do exercise videos since I like those better than going to the gym alone

I'm up to 3 pull ups now. I can even initiate from a dead hang. Huge progress for me, so excited!

The slicing and dicing from surgery has made my leg straighter than ever before. Before my leg would flip to the side and that would be it's normal resting position. Everyone so far has said that it really is straight which is a small victory in my books.

One of the guys I speak to on a regular basis at work is a huge yoga fan, and he's going to put together an easy routine to get me started out. We got talking yesterday about my plan to get into shape, and he offered. So I'll be adding that into my weekly regime soon enough.

My workplace has started up on a program called Fitness Passport, which is a new thingy which subsidises members to have cheap access to a bunch of fitness facilities in the area. You can get immediate family members on your membership too, which is good because a) my partner is shit at doing anything for his fitness and now maybe he'll come with me (?), and b) it means I can take my daughter to a swimming pool without selling my kidneys for lessons. I don't need a gym for cardio because I prefer to do it outside, and I do pole most days, but it's nice to have access to full weights rooms again too. One of the places near me has a really old school bodybuilder vibe, which I love, so I'll be going there. Also I've been scoping out the facilities for available yoga / flexibility classes, because I'm frankly terrible and lazy at keeping up with stretching >_> There's a women's gym near here which has antigravity yoga hammocks (and a creche, hooray), and the uni gym has a functional fitness area (TRX / ropes / calisthenics & stuffs). I am super excite about all the things

So I was diagnosed with a bunch of crap last year, and with juggling meds and dealing with being ill I lost a shit load of weight in a short period of time. 55lbs in about five months, my weight has remained the same since October which I'm happy about because I was so scared I'd keep losing weight.
My dietitian has been lovely, and is thrilled that the weight loss stopped, it's really hard for me to eat enough though. I'm right smack in the middle of my healthy bmi range now at least. Does anyone have any very calorie heavy snacks they enjoy? My list of restricted foods is fairly long, I've been snacking a lot on peanut butter or avocados, but I'd like to try new things.
Also can I complain about how much I hate people telling me they're jealous of how "easy" it was for me to lose weight, cause goddamn it pisses me right off.

i also have the "privileged" side of the weight battle - i'm an emotional starver & have trouble keeping weight on in general. the best i've found when it's difficult to eat are odwalla protein smoothies. chocolate, vanilla, & chai are the best: easy to consume & high calorie without being ALL sugar+fat.
when it's been the most difficult & i'm happy for ANY calories i can input, i'll go for milkshakes made with häagen-dazs - again, easy & fast to consume.

Ooo protein smoothies, I didn't even think about that. Dietician recommended protein bars, but they're disgusting. I'll eat them, but I'd rather not. Eating is unpleasant enough without having to choke stuff down that tastes like chunky cardboard, plus I'm not supposed to eat too many wheat products. I love chai, I am totally buying some to try.

Does anyone have any very calorie heavy snacks they enjoy? If you're able to and good to eat it, make up some trail mix. Nuts, raisins, m&ms, whatever you like. And keep it around and available the majority of the time. Eat a handful here and there throughout the day, when you're otherwise not doing much (or even better to quickly eat something if you're too busy for regular meals/snacks). +1 on the calorie dense drinks. Even if you're able to consume solid meals, drink calories during the day too. As much as sugars and fats get a bad rap in the diet industry, they're actually quite good for you, so try not to hyper-obsessively balance macronutrients. It's all shit your body needs to make it work right, and if it's easier to eat calories made up of sugar and fat then go for it.
