it'll help. EMLA is great. but you don't need it for a punch; they really don't hurt that much.

Yeah Emla, sorry. I'm glad to hear it works, even if we're not 100% about cartilage its bound to do something right? Also iirc it needs to be covered in cling film and left for an hour or two. Not sure how that's going to work on a conch. Ah ok thankyou for telling me, the cling film rings a bell actually, this was me mis-remembering and not the piercers fault i'll have to find a way to wrap my ear up and get my friend to hear for me for an hour or so but you don't need it for a punch; they really don't hurt that much. So i realize its a dumb question because pain is subjective, but how much does a conch punch hurt? I mean like, relitive to a conch piercing lets say. I dunno, i realize its gonna hurt, i mean you're taking a big chunk of your cartilage out, but i've heard some people say its easier than a conch piercing, others that it's hellish. Is it just one of those mods that is really varied? Like with septums how some people say it kills and others didn't feel it, but different, obviously because its different Forgive me if that made no sense X)

Mine were pretty bad, quite intense. Still not the worst, though. They were easier than my nipples. For me, punches mainly feel hot and they are painful, but they were really sore for at least a few days after.

My punches were so fast, they honestly didn't hurt that much. Like Brittany said, they felt really hot when he pushed the punch through, but then it was over. I had both of mine done one after the other, and after doing the first I knew I could handle the second no problem. I expected much, much worse! I maintain that my nostril was my most unpleasant piercing honestly.

Mine felt different to a piercing in that it was a little slower, but it was still over super fast. Pain was no worse than any other cartilage piercing i have, all i really remember now is discomfort more than pain. I also remember the crunch of the cartilage, that was... Interesting.

I had a regular conch piercing, retired it and had it punched instead. The punch was more intense for a split second, but the pain subsided more quickly. It swelled more in the days after but overall I found it healed quicker and more easily.

I'm glad to hear it's not excruciating, it sounds more or less what i expected, which is good i guess? Hot i'm ok with, achy pain after i'm ok with, the thing is i'm a bit of a wimp but for no good reason? My pain tolerance is quite high, but i still get scared by pain really easily I'm obv not gonna back out, i'll have forgotten about the pain in a few years and be left with pretty conches, but i just wanna be prepared. I think i will use Emla, even if its not necessary/doesn't work so well. Aside from anything it was recommended by the piercer and hopefully it'll at least give me some sort of placebo to stop me freaking out internally

EMLA: got Special salt for salt solution: got old pillowcases/sheets that can just be thrown away if they get bloody: got neck pillow: getting contact lens solution: getting (i was told that its good if your ears start feeling a bit dry/crusty/itchy during the day but cant do anything since you cant pick crust obv and you don't wanna be putting moisturizer on an open wound)
am i forgetting anything? I don't wanna get them done and realize I've forgotten something last minute

pls don't put contact solution on your wounds
it's not the same as plain old saline/wound wash, which will work perfectly fine for that application

Make sure you have a memory foam style neck pillow, cause the ones with beans in can sound very loud when you're laying on them. That might just be a personal preference, but I very much appreciated the difference once I got a memory foam one.
